Patrick Oliphant is America's most influential and widely admired editorial cartoonist, creating controversy and consternation with every flick and whirl of his marvelously irreverent pen. Since his arrival in the United States from Australia almost fifty years ago, Oliphant has skewered the powers-that-be in America and around the globe, using his art to expose avarice and malfeasance, incompetance and corruption wherever it appears.
Art Services International presents the first comprehensive retrospective of Oliphant's body of work -- which transcends mere cartooning to achieve a satirical blend of humor, art, history, politics and social commentary akin to celebrated graphic artists of the past like Honore Daumier. Oliphant has earned this distinguished comparison through a lifetime of intellectual growth and artistic evolution -- especially through his achievements in painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. In this exhibition of works by the world's leading satirical artist, audiences will experience the means, methods and mastery of Oliphant's one-of-a-kind sculptures in bronze and wood, portraits in pencil and oil and prints. The apocryphal Chinese curse, "may you live in interesting times," comes to life in Oliphant's artwork drawn from various collections.
